Gardening is one of the best activities that one can do, especially on times like now. It not only helps one relax and de-stress but also enables one to become sustainable. To make your gardening easier, today I would be talking about using alternative solutions to the traditional plastic/clay pots. These alternative are containers which are suitable for growing plants and would be easily available to you at your home.
Advantages of Using Different Plant Pots/Containers
Using a container that is readily available to you at your home is a good way to become eco-friendly. This method is also pocket friendly. Since you will be using stuff that is already present at your home. Boxes and containers which you would have otherwise thrown would now be put to good use.
Myths related to Traditional Plant Pots
A lot of people think that plants won’t be able to survive in such plastic containers which are absolutely wrong. I have grown a lot of plants in such containers and they grow well.
Some people also think that these plastic containers are not durable enough to hold a plant but this isn’t Correct because plastic is a material that takes hundreds of years to decompose even when put in an extreme condition so, growing a small plant won’t be a difficult one.
Substitute to Traditional Pots
- You can use old cold drink bottles, ice cream tubs, cookie jars/boxes, plastic boxes, or even clay pots that are out of use.
- You can also use empty oil bottles/containers or protein powder boxes.
- It is a good idea to use good quality storage containers that cannot be used now because they are damaged/developed cracks.
- You can also use the low quality plastic containers which are usually used by restaurants as pacing material to deliver food.
Note
If you are using any plastic container then make sure that it has drainage holes. To create drainage holes just use a compass and blow some holes in the box/container so that excess water flows out.
Be Creative
You can even paint those containers and make beautiful designs on the container or tie a string to the pot and hang it in your balcony/ near window as a supplement to home décor. You can also use multiple plastic containers and hang them in a manner to create wall art or even a vertical garden.
