10 Effective Ways & Tricks to Teach Your Baby to Climb Stairs

1 # Teach them on the Small Height Staircase

Baby’s feet are small and they find it easy to climb up and down on stairs to a low height. Just like we avoid places with very high steps of staircases similar baby also feels uninterested in climbing high steps, as it will slow them down. Also, just like us babies are also worried that they may fall and get hurt from stairs with high steps.

2 # Ask them to Keep One Step (Feet) at a Time

Many babies take more time in learning how to climb stairs, as they try to imitate their parents from day one of putting one foot on one step and second feet directly on the next steps. Instead, we should teach them to take one step at a time and they should rest both feet on the same step before trying to climb up to the next step. This will help them build confidence and make them safe in the process.

While teaching babies on how to climb we should also follow the same process which we are teaching them as babies learn more from your actions than words.

3 # Hold your Baby by Both Hands

Follow the same method by which we teach our kids to walk i.e. by holding both of their hands and making them walk, in the same manner, we can teach our baby how to climb the staircase. We need to Hold Your Baby’s Hands and stand in the middle of the staircase and ask our Baby to put his one foot up and then the other feet. Try and make him climb at least 5 to 6 stairs at one time to build his confidence and interest in the process.

4 # Holding Railings are the Best Way Forward:

Some babies love to hold the railings while climbing the staircase also, sometimes they sit on the steps holding the railing and try to climb in sitting position only, which is absolutely normal.

We need to let them explore all the ways of climbing and make them realize that best and fastest way to climb is in standing position only. Always stand behind your babies to make them feel safe and confident.

5 # Use Toys to Develop Interest

Sometimes babies are not at all interested in learning how to climb the staircase, in that case, we need to take the help of his favorite toys. It’s the old way and trick to encourage baby to climb the staircase also this is the only method with a 100% success rate.

So keep his favorite toy on 3/4 steps up and let them climb to grab it, this is making them learn climbing very quickly and naturally.

We can also take help from our neighbor with older kids to show your baby how they climb up and comes down on the stairs so that your baby gets motivated in doing the same thing with them.

7 # Practice is the KEY:

If you have a staircase in your house, then it’s very easy for you to teach/practice with them 2 or 3 times a day. Even if you have to go out to teach them than also make sure that you make this a routine until your baby develops confidence in doing it by himself. Small babies tend to forget anything which is not done on a regular basis.
