5 Quick Tips to Grow Coriander (Cilantro) at Home

Grow Coriander

Coriander is one of the Easiest Plants to Grow at Home. So, if you are a Beginner at Gardening then Coriander is one of my top recommendations for you. It is important to note that coriander requires a moderate amount of sunlight and grows very well during spring to rainy seasons. Let’s get started:-

Step 1:

Look out for the Coriander Seeds and its easily available in the market. Maybe most of you must be having in your kitchen or would get easily from a nearby store.

Step 2:

Is to use a Rolling Pin and Roll it over the Seeds. The logic behind applying a bit of force on the seeds is that each seed can give rise to 2 saplings and a little bit of pressure causes the seed to split into two parts which mean two seeds.

Step 3:

It is to soak the seeds in water for about 18-24 hrs although this step isn’t compulsory, it speeds up the process of germination (therefore, it is recommended).

Now there are Two Methods to Proceed Further

Method 1:

Step 4: To make a basket that has a lot of holes in it and fill it with a layer of soil about 0.5 – 1 inch in thickness and place the seeds which were soaked earlier. Water the soil to make sure it is moist and holds together.

Step 5: Is to place a vessel filled with water under the basket. As the seeds will germinate, the roots will gradually come out of the basket through holes and enter into the vessel from where it would absorb water. This is a very efficient method to grow coriander in large quantities.

Method 2:

Step 4: Take a normal part of small or medium size and place the seeds in it

Step 5: Water the pot to ensure that the soil is moist

Bonus Tip

It is recommended to place a transparent polythene bag or a cellophane sheet over the basket/pot this helps in trapping the sunlight to create a greenhouse and also to trap the moisture in the soil which would increase the humidity i.e. create a monsoon-like environment for the seeds/ saplings. Thus, creating favorable conditions for them to grow very well.
