Gaining or Losing excess Weight during Pregnancy, triggers that something is not well (wrong) with you and your Baby. Taking good care should be your First Most Priority during your Pregnancy.

It has been seen that Pregnant Women who are overweight before pregnancy, are at a Higher Risk of Gestational Diabetes and High Blood Pressure, which can lead to many other health issues.

To avoid any kind of complication during pregnancy, you need to follow a Good Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Diet. Pregnancy does not mean that you’re free to eat whatever you want, you should enjoy your pregnancy by eating healthy and tasty food, just try to avoid sweets, chocolates, cheeses, Caffeine, etc. 

Below is the Handy Information for the First Time Pregnant Women to understand How much Weight they should gain during their pregnancy and also understand How their Unborn Baby Weight is made up.

What is BMI (Body Mass Index)?

 A healthy Pre-Pregnancy BMI is 18.5 to 24.9 and it measures your weight in relation to your height.

Weight Gain Requirement in The First Trimester

During the First Trimester of Pregnancy, you need to gain little weight, the ideal weight would be –  500 grams to 2 kg (1 to 4½ lb) in total.

Kindly note that if you lose or gain weight more than 10% of your pre-pregnancy weight then you need to discuss with your health care provider.

Weight Gain Requirement in The Second Trimester 
& Third Trimester

During the second trimester of pregnancy, you need to maintain your weight and the weight gain should be steady – 200 to 500 grams (½ to 1 lb) per week.

A Healthy Total Weight Gain During Pregnancy Ranges :

Single Child = 5 to 18 kg (11 to 40 lb).

For Twins = 11 to 25 kg (25 to 54 lb).

Below is the chart for your reference, what should be your weight during your pregnancy

• When Your BMI is less than 18.5   –    Right Weight Gain    –  13 to 18 kg (28 to 40 lb).

• When Your BMI is 18.5 to 24.9       –  Right Weight Gain      –  11 to 16 kg (25 to 35 lb).

• When Your BMI is 25 to 29.9          –  Right Weight Gain       – 7 to 11 kg (15 to 25 lb).

• When Your BMI is 30 or over         – Right Weight Gain        – 5 to 9 kg (11 to 20 lb).
