Should I Wake Baby to Give Breastfeed?

Should I Wake Baby to Give Breastfeed?

Are you in confusing whether to wake your Newborn Baby to give Breastfeed or not. My lactation consultants at the hospital said to Breastfeed her in every 3 to 4 hours and in case she is sleeping wake her up for feed. Few days in starting she wakes up on her own and takes the feed around every 3 hours but suddenly after 6 days she refused to wake up by her own. In one stretch she was sleeping for around 5 to 6 hours. Of Course she was hungry and that’s why she became more cranky.

In What Condition you Need to Wake Baby For Breastfeed:

It depends upon how the baby weight is going. In case baby is not gaining weight then you have to be more cautions. You just can’t wait for baby signal or her to start crying. Wake her and feed her….

Try to slow / gentle touch her face by your fingers and start tapping on her face. Don’t do it in harsh way as baby skin is too sensitive. You can start some conversation with baby or start making some noise in the room or any play some her favourite music which she enjoys.

It will take time but this is the only solution. Keep yourself in ready position of breastfeeding. As soon as she opens her eyes or mouth bring her to the position of feeding.

In What Condition you Don’t need to wake Baby For Breastfeed:

My mothers in law say don’t get panic, when she will feel hungry she will let us know.  If she is gaining weight and her daily activities are going fine then there is no need. Some babies suck the milk  VERY FAST, thatz why their small stomach gets full soon.

Normally babies trends to lose little weight within 3 to 4 days after the birth. Therefore wait for 10 to 15 days and to monitor her habits and weight.

How can you identify whether she is gaining weight in her first month or not?

My doctor said that if baby is passing stool 3 to 4 times in a day its mean she is having enough breastfeed for her stomach and there is no need to worry.
