A habit of Thumb Sucking is very common in babies who stay abroad. But it has been seen that these days in many countries parents are giving the pacifier to babies at a very early age, just to stop their babies from crying. Some mothers are lucky to see their baby thumb sucking in their ultrasound, before the birth of the baby. But the same habits will later become an issue for many parents.

Thumb sucking is found very common in babies below 2 years old. The reason behind baby thumb sucking is they feel calm, relax and comfortable in sucking. And especially the babies who are on bottle feeding.

 It has been noticed that Breastfeeding Babies are in less habit of thumb sucking as compare to Bottle Feeding. Maybe because breastfeeding babies feel comfortable & relax in sucking their mother nipples. It’s actually a different experience and attachment between the baby and mother.

1 # Discourage your Baby for Thumb Sucking:

Now the time has come and you should not allow your baby or toddler to continue thumb sucking anymore. Stop encouraging him further to keep his thumb or fingers in his mouth.

2 # Don’t allow your child to sleep with sucking his Thumb inside his mouth:

Babies are in habit of sleep in the night with sucking the thumb or bottle in their mouth. In both, the cases of tooth decay will be a problem. Try to get your baby sleep by storytelling or other means.

3 # Give him an example of other Toddlers:

A toddler is big enough to understand their parent’s words and communication. So tell or show them another toddler of their age, who does not do thumb sucking.

4 # Stop giving them Pacifier any more:

Parents need to make up their mind and stop giving the pacifier to their baby or toddler any more. And especially if they cry, please let them cry or use other alternative options.

5 # Give them Alternative of Pacifier:

when adults want to leave there some bad habits they opt of other options to leave it easily. Parents should do the same with their babies or toddlers. Give them some finger food or other sweet food or whatever they like to have.

6 # Keep Stopping them In-between:

When your baby is 6 months old, you should start stopping him in between in thumb sucking. Babies will also take their own time in leaving this habit. Therefore, parents should start their struggle and efforts as soon as earlier.

7 # Make a Full Stop on Baby Thumb Sucking when they Turn One Year Old:

You have given already lots of time to your kid to enjoy the thumb sucking and pacifier. Now it’s the time to stop them, otherwise, they will have the problem in having proper permanent teeth.
