How to Treat : Toddler Nosebleed

When your Toddler or Kids are in a growing stage, you have to be ready to deal with lots of unwanted medical situation at Home. Toddler Nosebleed is the most common problem in Babies, Toddlers, and Kids. It will happen suddenly without giving any warning. It’s scary but few tips can help you and your kids to deal with it.

What will you do when you suddenly notice that blood is leaking from your kid’s nostrils? Will you panic or start looking for immediate treatment.  Parents can easily handle the problem at home without consulting any doctor.

Below are few unwanted situations that may cause Nosebleed to Babies (under the age of One Year)

> When Baby fell off the bed onto the hardwood floor.

> When your baby runs into a sliding glass door and falls flat on his face.

> When walking babies fall and hit their head on the floor or side of a table.

> When they Fall from a height greater than 3 feet can result in a nosebleed

 Major Reasons Behind Toddler Nosebleed

 There is much reason which causes nosebleed in a child but when we talk about day-to-day activities of kids then only a few major reasons are behind the Nosebleed:-

> Nose injury: It often occurs during play, accidents, fights, and falls. Being hit in the nose and other injuries may also cause a nosebleed.

> Nasal Allergy: If you notice that your Kid is frequently having a nosebleed than maybe he or she is allergic to dust, pets or the environment. You will notice that in the winters it increases symptoms like itchy, watery eyes are typically a sign of an allergy.

> Family History: Maybe due to some Family History your kid has a nasal allergy. Please contact your doctor in this case.

> Nose Picking: Discourage your kids if they pick their noses. Fingernails can scratch the nasal walls due to which bleeding is caused.

> Frequent Colds, Frequent picking or blowing the nose.

> A structural problem within the nose.

Learn Step by Step How to Treat Babies/Toddler Nosebleed

> Calmly put your kid on Chair or Table (Sitting Position) with his head tilted forward. Please do not push his neck or face in an upwards position, as blood can flow into the mouth or throat. It can cause nausea or vomiting. Don’t allow your kid to chin-up or lie down on the bed.

>Softly clean the visible blood with wipe/ tissue or cotton swab, don’t wipe it with a harsh hand.

>Pinch the fleshy part of the nose firmly with your thumb and forefinger toward the face, compressing the pinched parts of the nose against the bones of the face.

>Now pinch & close the nostrils for 5 to 10 times, until the nose has stopped bleeding.

>Put the kid neck downwards, place the ice cubes on the nape of the neck wrapped in a towel.

>Now apply Ice on Nose Bridge to freeze the blood to avoid any blood clots and cheeks afterward

>Apply an Ice bag or frozen sponge at the back of the neck too.

Dangerous Symptoms to Look For – Call your Doctor

When you notice the baby being Drowsy after the nosebleed

Nausea

When blood loss is huge/extreme heavy bleeding

Loss of consciousness

Nose & Mouth bleeding together

Any object sticks inside the nose

How can you prevent your Kids from Nosebleed?

1 # Vaseline – you can use a small amount of that Vaseline and put it twice a day to the center wall of the inside of the nose. Use a cotton swab rather than a finger.

2 # Saline mist nasal spray is often helpful – You should use nasal saline to moisturizer the noise and wash away any irritants and pollens and do this every day.
